About NASUWT Derby

The Teachers' Union Fighting for You in Derby

All NASUWT members who teach in schools within the Derby City area are automatically members of the Derby NASUWT Branch.

All members are invited to BRANCH MEETINGS which are informal and inclusive. Meetings are a great opportunity to find out what’s happening beyond your own school, whether in Derby, or Derbyshire and nationally. Share experiences and get support or become more involved in the activities of your union. Put forward motions and help to decide what should be the priorities for YOUR union.

The members elect the Branch Committee annually. There are 5 officer posts, President, Vice-President, Ex-President, Secretary and Treasurer. You can find the forms for nomination HERE. In addition 8 Executive Committee members are elected, and more can be co-opted onto the committee.

The Secretary represents the branch by negotiating with Derby City Council and the Academies which lie within Derby. Where academy chains include schools in both Derby and elsewhere, the NASUWT ensures that consultations and agreements are made jointly for the benefit of all members.

As well as the Secretary there are other caseworkers within the branch who may help members when they need individual advice and support when they face procedures within their school such as disciplinary, capability or problems with appraisal or pay progression.

The BRANCH COMITTEE make suggestions and recommendations, but the branch is run by the members, at the Branch meetings. If you want to become more involved in your union, then why not JOIN US?
